Skiing with Yina
Skiing with Yina
By Charlotte Rasmussen, LM Editor
Just back from six weeks of training
and racing in Vail, Colorado and the
Canadian Rockies with her coach, Yina
Moe-Lang was home for the Christmas
break and up early to go skiing with
my 8-year old daughter, Zoe, at one of
her favorite local ski areas—Alpental.
Ranked 292 in the world in 2010 in the
women’s downhill and a member of
the 2010 Danish Winter Olympic team,
Yina Moe-Lange is a poised and independent
17-year-old and one incredible
skier. Born in Tokyo, Japan to Danish
parents, Yina has Danish citizenship,
speaks fluent Danish and loves
her Mom’s home-baked rye bread.
Clocked at 72 miles per hour in a
downhill race at Lake Louise last year,
Yina goes as fast on skis as we drive on
the interstate. She describes a typical
downhill race as going as fast as you
dare, controlling your fear with the
hope that your training will allow you
to hold that edge until the finish line.
Yina races in all 4 Women’s alpine
events and she enjoys the more technical
aspects of the slalom events with
the Giant Slalom being her favorite.
